I have spent more than ten years in people's homes on government-funded energy programmes, most of it in rural Wales and Cornwall. I started on the survey side, went on to run installation teams and subcontractors, and came back to surveying because that is where a job is won or lost. Most of what goes wrong on site was decided before anyone turned up: a measure that does not suit the building, a model that does not match the house, funding that was never going to stack up.

So Seren does that part properly. The assessment, the energy model, the costs, the funding position and the evidence, before anyone commits money. More than 2,500 homes surveyed, and over three quarters of them went on to funded works, because the ones that would not stack up were told so early.

I am good at the part that happens in someone's kitchen. I listen to their concerns, explain findings plainly and plan work with their circumstances in mind. Gaining trust and keeping people informed matter as much as getting the technical recommendations right. I understand how measures affect one another, and the importance of addressing the underlying cause rather than the symptom.

I have run the business that had to make the numbers work, so I am careful with other people's money: realistic priorities, phased plans that balance immediate repairs with longer-term improvement, and a clear answer when a job should not go ahead.

Who we work with

Coordination and designs on Seren jobs are signed off by a chartered (MCIOB) Retrofit Coordinator we work with. Seren does the assessment, the modelling, the evidence and the groundwork for the design.

We don't install. We assess, model and evidence. If you want an installer, we can introduce one. How that works.

If you are an assessor or coordinator yourself: Matt also runs Meridian CPD, practitioner-written CPD for domestic energy assessors, retrofit assessors and retrofit coordinators. It is a separate company of his, not part of Seren.
